Barwon Health Volunteer Service was successful in receiving a grant
from The Percy Baxter Charitable Trust to establish the Barwon Health
Volunteer Stroke Support Service (BHVSSS). The BHVSSS has been developed
in response to a demand for on going community support for people affected
by stroke. The service is primarily aimed at individuals and families
recently affected by stroke. Funding source: The Percy Baxter Charitable Trust Bayside Falls PreventionYear: 2002-04 Staff: Keith Hill, Jenny Schwarz (MECRS), Anastasia Sagris-Desmond (Bayside Division of General Practice) Summary: This project, auspiced by the Central Bayside Division of General Practice, involved a system wide approach to identify falls risk and coordinate management strategies. NARI's role included development of a several tiered falls risk screening and assessment process for community dwelling older people, home care workers, and health professionals and general practitioners, and implementing training programs to support these assessment procedures. Foothold on Safety 2 falls prevention - allied health and HACC trainingYear: 2001-02 Staff: Keith Hill, MECRS Falls Clinic team, Rani Hughes (Doutta Galla CHS), Lea Kewish (Doutta Galla CHS) Summary: This project, auspiced by the Doutta Galla Community Health Service, involved a community based falls prevention program with a strong focus on community engagement. As part of the program, NARI provided falls prevention training programs for allied health professionals, and additional sessions for home care workers, and undertook evaluation support for the project. Funding source: Victorian Department of Human Services Facilitating health promotion in planned activity groups: development and delivery of a training programYear: 2001 Staff: Melissa Lindeman, Joan Nankervis, Kirsten Moore, Deborah Osborne, Robyn Smith Summary: The program funded by a HACC Service Development Grant from the Western Metropolitan Region, aimed to enhance the capability of Planned Activity Group providers to include specific health-promoting activities into their programs and to facilitate networks and contacts between Planned Activity Group staff from different agencies. Funding source: Victorian Department of Human Services Delivery of assessment & care planning training to HACC workers (Aged Services Network, Western Region)Year: 2000 Summary: This involved the development and delivery of a program on assessment and care planning for aged and disability services (HACC) staff. The program was developed in line with Western Metropolitan Regional needs and the national Community Services Training Package competencies. Delivery of information and assessor training sessions on Personal Alert Victoria and the Immediate Response Service - (DHS Eastern and Southern Metropolitan regions)Summary: NARI was contracted to develop and conduct a series of general information and specialist training sessions for aged and disability services staff on the introduction of the expanded and enhanced Personal Alert Victoria and the new Immediate Response service.
